Orlando Pirates sign the next Happy Jele?

Orlando Pirates are already planning for the next season, with both incomings and outgoings in focus.

Pirates made a number of signings during the off-season, as well as the January transfer window.

They signed  Melusi Buthelezi from TS Galaxy, Siphelo Baloni from All Stars FC and Katlego Otladisa from Marumo Gallants. They were joined by Karim Kimvuidi, Lesedi Kapinga and Patrick Maswanganyi. Then in January, Pirates added the duo of Thabiso Lebitso and Thalenthe Mbatha. In January, stalwart Thembinkosi Lorch and Bienvenu Eva Nga both left the club for Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United respectfully.

Those players are expected to be followed out of the exit door by a few more, in the coming window. The likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Souaibou Marou, Sandile Mthethwa, among those touted for an exit. Another name that could enter that list soon is goalkeeper Richard Ofori. The Ghanaian international has been at least third choice for the past two seasons at Pirates.

Pirates sign Madalane

Another player who was even expected to leave on loan at the start of this season is Azola Matrose. The young midfielder enjoyed a fruitful loan at Chippa last season, with others expecting him to go on another loan spell. But the window will not all be about outgoings. Pirates are set to make some signings at both a senior and junior level ahead of next season. Now according to KickOff.com they have already sealed the deal for young Dimpho “Khalabemgeza” Madalane.

The high scholar is already playing men’s football, as he is part of Mpumalanga’s ABC Motsepe League side Madubaduba FC. Having signed what is thought to be a long-term contract, Madalane is expected to form part of the Pirates DStv Diski Challenge side. The player is set to move to Johannesburg in June, with the club already organising a new school for him.

Speaking to the same publication, the coach credited for Madalane’s development, December Majola waxes lyrically about Pirates’ latest teenage signing.

The next Happy Jele?

“Madalane is a full-back, but he is versatile, he can play anywhere the coach prefers him. He’s got the sweetest left foot you’ve seen in South African football in a long time. Pirates have found themselves a gem here.” Said Majola.

Majola also nurtured the talents of Pirates legend Happy Jele. Madalane and the most capped Buccaneers both come from the Mhluzi township near Middleburg. Will the youngster end up with the same success?
