To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development.

Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship.

Ex-Real Madrid coach Luxemburgo to Chiefs?

A run which saw Chiefs winning three of their last four games of 2024, saw Johnson in with a shout. But now according to the latest, the club are back looking at other candidates. Despite public denial, reports of Amakhosi pursuing Pitso Mosimane have not gone away. He is believed to be the club’s number candidate. Now according to KickOff.com should they not land Mosimane, a new candidate has arisen. That in the form of former Real Madrid mentor Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

Coach Vanderlei (Luxembergo) is weighing up his options now and the idea of Kaizer Chiefs is an option that he is open to considering. The project at hand is what will influence his decision to join his next club more than money issues because he has made a lot of money before. Having played in South Africa, I think the Chiefs project will be suitable for him because he will be able to bring back the club to where it belongs. Experience wise, he is second to none because he has handled superstars like Zidane and Beckham.” Said agent Pio Nogueira who played for both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the past

Nogueira believes that the Chiefs project is screaming out for Luxemburgo.

Why he would be perfect for the job

“I don’t know what Chiefs have in mind, but I feel Vanderlei can be able to do a job for them. Based on what has happened in recent years, they need an experienced coach. As is the trend in the game, Vanderlei moves with his trusted people. It is about time that they gets a Brazilian coach with experience. It will be interesting to see what Chiefs decide when such a coach is also available,”. Concluded Nogueria.
