Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs has died after he was shot during a hijacking in Honeydew, Gauteng. Find out what was his last post on X.
KAIZER CHIEFS DEFENDER LUKE FLEURS KILLED IN HIJACKING
As previously reported, the 24-year-old’s death was confirmed by his club and local police. The reports say the incident happened while Luke Fleurs was at a petrol station near his apartment. Two armed men driving a white BMW 1 Series appeared and forced him out of his red VW Golf 8. The Mitchells Plain-born star was then shot once on the upper body. He was declared dead upon arrival at a local medical centre.
“While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant, he was confronted by two armed males who came driving a white BMW 1 Series. The suspects pointed at him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once in the upper body,” Police reported on the late Chiefs player Luke Fleurs.
“One suspect drove off with the victim’s car, followed by his accomplice. The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead on arrival,” the reported concluded.
Meanwhile, we have found a couple of last words from Fleurs’ Instagram and X accounts. On X, his last post was a tribute to his former SuperSport teammate George Chigova who died in November 2023.
Chiefs said of Luke Fleurs passing: “We are profoundly shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic and untimely passing of one of our players, Luke Fleurs.
“The 24-year-old former youth international lost his life after being shot during a hijacking on Wednesday evening in Johannesburg, He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to gunshot wounds.
“Luke came to Kaizer Chiefs earlier this season before finally signing a two year deal with the Club in October 2023. He was yet to make an official appearance for Amakhosi, although he had sat on the bench for the team. The Club’s management, players and the technical team are all profoundly upset by this devastating turn of events.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this extremely difficult time. The Club will make further announcements at a later stage,” Amakhosi concluded.
