Jurgen Klopp bizarrely blames Manchester United for Liverpool’s downturn in form – Man United News And Transfer News

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given Manchester United fans something to smile about in a season of darkness.

With fans at Old Trafford having to watch months of clueless, chaotic football that led their side to an embarrassing group phase exit in the Champions League and a seventh place position in the Premier League table by mid-April, United have been awarded arguably their biggest accolade of the season.

Speaking after Liverpool’s devastating 0-1 Anfield loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday, Klopp bizarrely blamed United for his side’s recent downturn on form.

There was much fanfare and talk of Liverpool striding towards the quadruple in the German’s last season in charge and the rest of England and Europe would tumble over with the sheer force of Jurgen’s juggernaut.

This notion was welcomely halted when United found something deep within to turn over their arch rivals 4-3 in a pulsating FA Cup tie in March.

The Merseysiders also dropped points at Old Trafford last Sunday in a 2-2 draw, that could have been worse for the away side if it hadn’t been for Mo Salah’s 84th minute penalty.

This was followed up with a spectacular 0-3 implosion at home to Atalanta in the Europa League which means that Klopp’s men will need a miracle to advance from Bergamo with the result they need.

A wonderful week for United fans, at least not focusing on their own team, was completed with Liverpool’s shock home defeat to Palace, to put a massive dent in their title aspirations.

According to 90Min, after the game Klopp said, “I think the problem is a little bit that I am not 100 per cent sure that in general how we dealt with the [Manchester] United games particularly helped”.

“I mean, we lost the game in the cup and it was like a catastrophe because we were that good and lost it anyway. Then we draw there [in the league], were really good for a long spell and just drew it – that’s now not the reason for today, it’s a few weeks back anyway, but you asked about the last few weeks”.

“So, the problems we had in the United games were completely different to the things we had today. Yes, the goals we conceded are too easy, that’s probably a general thing that is true.”

United supporters around the world will be gleeful that their side seem to have so much control over what their rivals down the M62 do.

With 565 shots conceded this season so far, United can’t seem to control the things they do theoretically have some power over, but it is nice that Klopp can give his old rivals one final bit of credit before he departs English shores.

In all seriousness, the rivalry between the two clubs is fierce and were it Liverpool in United’s shoes as spoilers, as it so often was in the 1990s and early 2000s, they would also take massive glory in their rival’s failures.

United will be hoping they can borrow a little bit of the energy they have needed to derail Liverpool’s trophy charge from afar, just for an afternoon, when they take on Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final this Sunday.
