Kaizer Chiefs star to face the champions of Europe!

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo faces the prospect of midfield duels with some of Europe’s finest.

Chiefs schemer Castillo called up for Venezuela

Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestro Edson Castillo hasn’t had a great couple of weeks, but he’s still a valued member of the Venezuela squad. The 29-year-old and his compatriots are in the USA. They’ll meet up with the might of Italy at Fort Lauderdale’s Chase Stadium on Thursday 21 April at 23:00 SA time. He isn’t expected to start this friendly, but a cameo role off the bench isn’t out of the question. If he does that, he could contest duels with some of Europe’s finest like Inter Milan dynamo Nicolo Barella and Arsenal’s string-puller Jorginho. Castillo has eight caps for his country and one goal. This term, at club level, he’s made 18 DStv Premiership appearances, scoring three times.

Italy, of course, are the defending European champions after beating England in the Euro 2020 final on penalties.

WHO IS REPORTED AMAKHOSI TARGET SHANDRE CAMPBELL?

Campbell is primarily a left-winger but can operate on the other flank or as a second striker. Born in July 2005, he’s still just 18 and one for the future, but the present looks quite promising too. He’s slowly becoming one of the hottest properties in the South African Premier Division. Former Bucs star Benedict Vilakazi has urged Kaizer Chiefs to make a move for Campbell before champions Sundowns swoop in for the talented teen. Will the Glamour Boys heed his advice? He bagged a brace in Matsatsantsa’s 3-1 win over Richards Bay sending them to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
