Ruben Amorim: Boost for Man United as managerial target refutes claims of Liverpool talks and agreement – Man United News And Transfer News

Sporting Lisbon boss and reported Manchester United managerial target Ruben Amorim has debunked rumours suggesting that Liverpool are closing in on his signing as a replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

Amorim is believed to be one of many managers Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are looking at as they consider parting ways with Erik ten Hag.

Due to United’s extremely underwhelming and disappointing season, it has been suggested that Ratcliffe and his associates could make a change in the Old Trafford dugout.

Ten Hag’s future at the club is far from secure and the Dutchman is facing an uphill battle to convince the new United co-owner, who has assumed full control of sporting operations, that he is the right man for the job.

The 54-year-old’s coach situation has not been helped by the fact that the Red Devils continue to be strongly linked to his potential successors including Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Frank, Zinedine Zidane, Gary O’Neil, Carlo Ancelotti, Thiago Motta, Kieran McKenna and of course, Amorim.

A report covered by The Peoples Person last weekend relayed that Liverpool opened talks with Amorim as they consider him the perfect candidate to fill in the huge vacuum set to be left by Klopp when he steps down from his role at the end of the campaign.

A recent update even suggested that the Anfield outfit had already struck an agreement with Amorim over his switch from Sporting Lisbon to Liverpool – a state of affairs that would have almost spelt the end of United’s pursuit for the highly rated Portuguese tactician.

Amorim has however flatly denied claims that he has a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool.

Speaking at a press conference, the 39-year-old remarked, “I did not meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement.”

“It’s not true.”

“I’m Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.”

He added, “Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future.”

Amorim’s Sporting side are currently top of the Primeira Liga table and have a four-point advantage over rivals Benfica with seven top-flight matches left to play.

The statement from the Sporting boss undeniably offers Manchester United a ray of hope, should the 20-time English champions decide to act on their interest and pursue a deal to bring him to Old Trafford.
