Happy Jele is believed to be considering an offer to return to his beloved Orlando Pirates!
Jele did not make an impact at Royal AM, and as a result, is still yet to find another club as the season unwinds.
Jele had been a prominent feature for Pirates, having spent a fruitful 16-years of his career at the club. But the old adage goes, all good things have to come to an end. It seems like it was no different for the relationship between Jele and Pirates. The veteran centre back started his career at the club as a right-back, before making a transition to the centre.
Pirates confirmed the departure of Jele, the club confirmed that their chairman Dr Irvin Khoza had reached out him. This in an attempt to keep him within the Buccaneers camp. However, the “Iron Duke” had insisted that he wanted the 36-year-old to remain in a non-playing capacity. Speaking to Marawa Sport Worldwide he finally opened up on the conversation and why he turned down the contract. Opting not to stay as part of the team he had become synonymous with. He mentioned that he still felt that he couldn’t still play on and was not ready to retire just yet.
Even after his release from Royal AM, Jele saw himself playing for at least two more seasons. But his struggles to find a club this season could see him revert to the non-playing Pirates role.
Jele ready to return to Pirates?
“Happy is a Pirates legend and he made so much history with the club. He was appreciated by everyone at the club for what he achieved over the years. Pirates is like a home to him and the door will always be open,” said a source to Soccer-Laduma.
Has he accepted his fate?
It remains to be seen if Jele is finally ready to accept his playing fate and return to Pirates.
