The identities of the suspected killers of slain Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs have been revealed following their court appearance on Friday.
Gauteng police confirmed the arrest of the six suspects earlier this week, and they appeared before the Roodepoort magistrate’s court today.
The six men were arrested in connection with the murder of Fleurs’ who lost his life in an alleged highjacking in Florida on 3 April.
Fleurs passed away without kicking a ball for Chiefs in a competitive match but he was in line to make his debut against Chippa United on the same week his life was taken away from him.
The 24-year-old had recently joined Chiefs on a free transfer following his shock departure from SuperSport United in 2023.
WHO ARE THE SUSPECTED KILLERS OF LUKE FLEURS?
The six suspects are Ndumiso Moswane, 26, Fernando Siva, 25, Nhlakanipho Dlamini, 21, Franky Xaba, 25, Maredi Mphahlele, 36, and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu, 31.
They have all been charged with murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the ends of justice.
The matter was postponed to next week Friday, 19 April as the state was yet to get the profiles of the six accused as well their bail statements.
And that’s when the six men will be expected to apply for bail using the services of the Legal Aid Board but State, through prosecutor Arnold Limekhaya, said it will oppose bail.
KAIZER CHIEFS RETIRE JERSEY NO.26
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have announced that the jersey number which was allocated to slain defender Luke Fleurs has officially been retired.
Upon his arrival at Chiefs, Fleurs was handed the No.26 jersey although he never got to wear it in an official match.
“To honour Luke’s life and legacy, the club has decided to retire jersey number 26. No other player will ever wear the jersey number again,” said Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr at Fleurs’ memorial service on Thursday.
