Matches in the DStv Premiership are coming thick and fast with a full round of eight fixtures having been played in midweek.
The long Easter weekend saw seven matches played, with a further four having taken place on Tuesday night and another four on Wednesday evening.
Only six goals were scored in total in Tuesday’s matches, while 11 were scored on Wednesday as goals remain hard to come by in the top-flight.
A look at the updated standings as the season quickly heads to a conclusion shows that Mamelodi Sundowns enjoy an 11-point lead over their nearest challengers – and have played two fewer matches.
Stellenbosch FC are in an impressive second place and currently occupy the second and final CAF Champions League spot.
Third-placed Sekhukhune United are holding onto a CAF Confederations Cup spot at present.
It’s a dog-fight, however, between those teams ranked third to ninth with only four log points separating those sides as the battle for MTN8 spots heats up.
At the bottom of the standings, it’s a two-team tussle to avoid automatic relegation, with Cape Town Spurs on 12 points and Richards Bay on 14 with both sides having played 22 of 30 matches this season.
The next round of fixtures will take place this weekend, 6 and 7 April.
