Roy Keane waxes lyrical on Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes strikes against Liverpool – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with arch rivals Liverpool.

The Old Trafford side made it three games without defeat against the Merseysiders in Jurgen Klopp’s last season in charge.

United put in a poor first half performance where they were cut open at will and failed to have a shot on goal.

However, two moments of magic catapulted Erik ten Hag’s men into an unlikely lead.

A late penalty by Mo Salah meant the spoils were shared, but what United fans will remember are two wonder strikes by two of the club’s most influential players.

Commenting on the goals to Sky Sports, former United man, Roy Keane, waxed lyrical on the two protagonists.

When asked about Bruno Fernandes’ wonder strike from just inside the centre circle Keane effused, “only Bruno could have finished that chance”.

“To punish the Liverpool defender with a brilliant finish. He’s got that technique. Brilliant”.

The Portuguese midfielder has not always been in Keane’s good books, but the wonder strike that pulled his team back into the match was one of the best moments of the season.

The Irish pundit also waxed lyrical on fellow midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo.

The 18 year old’s rise as been one of the bright spots of the season for United fans across the globe and he underlined that status with an epic strike.

Speaking on the goal Keane joked, “not bad for a sitting midfielder”.

“The awareness, the quality, the finish. Amazing”.

After listening to Mainoo’s post-match interview Keane was notably impressed by the youngster’s mentality when he claimed he was disappointed not to pick up the three points.

Commenting on the Stockport native he said, “he seems like a really nice kid. You could see how delighted he is to score. Pity it’s not the winner”.

The draw does little for the Red Devils’ pursuit of Champions League football which seems further and further out of reach, as they have only picked up two points from the nine available after the international break.

However, the spirited nature and overall quality of their second half goals will surely give the side some confidence as they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium next Saturday evening.
