“It’s simple”: Wes Brown urges Manchester United to keep Erik ten Hag for one more season – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has pleaded with the club to give Erik ten Hag one more chance to overturn the situation and prove his brilliance.

Ten Hag is facing an uncertain future at United as a result of the side’s very underwhelming and disappointing season.

The Red Devils currently sit in seventh position and are almost certainly assured of missing out on Champions League football. They’re also facing a tough battle to qualify for the Europa League, with their slightly more consistent rivals closing in fast.

Ten Hag has come under intense pressure for United’s poor performances and dismal results, which have often left a lot to be desired.

It has been suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS could look to make a managerial change with a number of options under strong consideration.

Already, United have been linked to top coaches such as Julian Nagelsmann, Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate, Gary O’Neil, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna and Antonio Conte, just to mention a few names.

However, according to Brown who spoke to Gambling Zone, INEOS shouldn’t be too quick to replace Ten Hag as the Dutchman can still deliver if given time.

Brown, who won five Premier League titles and two Champions League titles with United said, “I don’t think that Manchester United are the sort of club that should be changing the manager, they should have a respectful three or four years to get what they want done. They have to give him one more season, it’s simple. I think the manager has done enough in the first two seasons to secure another season.”

“I like Erik ten Hag. United have had big-name managers in and it’s all been the same, so something is not right somewhere. You have to give the manager time because if you want to kick on and injuries have stopped him doing what he’s wanted to do this year. Martinez is a big miss, he changed things a little bit for Manchester United, he brings power to the defensive line – just like Varane.”

“This season is a tough watch, it’s not brilliant now if you’re a Manchester United fan. Last season was positive with a good league finish and two finals and a cup, this is where they want to be.”

Brown called on the current stars to take more responsibility for their woeful displays.

He added that while the manager ultimately takes the blame, the players also need to show some accountability for their part in the club’s disastrous campaign.

According to Brown, the FA Cup is massive to Ten Hag and winning it could go a long way towards convincing the top brass to retain him for a bit longer.

The 44-year-old explained, “The FA Cup could be massive. Erik had a fantastic start last season, finishing well in the league and getting to two finals – winning one. United have a great opportunity to get to the FA Cup final, winning it will be a big boost. Manchester United are used to winning trophies so it’d be massive for the manager, it’s one he’ll want to win.”

“They’ll still be looking at the league and they will need to be playing well there. Coventry in the semi-final will be a tougher game than people realise, so the lads will really have to play well because Coventry are going to really go for it. Coventry will be looking at Manchester United and thinking ‘these let in goals’, so it’s going to be a hard game. United are expected to get to the final and it’ll be important that the manager can win this.”

The ex-United man also noted that should the prospect of an all-Manchester Wembley cup final materialize, the 20-time English champions would undoubtedly be motivated to write the wrongs of last season and get one over Pep Guardiola’s men.
