Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi has revealed his biggest wish for the senior team in the remaining matches of the season.
In his recent interview with Sunday World, Vilakazi also revealed how his life has changed since joining Chiefs.
‘Obrigado’ as Vilakazi is affectionately known, took the country by storm at the Philly’s Games two years ago, and Chiefs moved swiftly to sign him.
And while there was too much pressure for Chiefs to promote him immediately, it took two years for them do so, and he’s gradually being introduced.
Vilakazi has now gained popularity, but for him, playing for the South Africa U20 national team is a big deal as he didn’t expect it so quickly since his rise.
MFUNDO VILAKAZI TALKS ABOUT HIS RISE
“My life has changed, even when I go to eKasi [township], people call my name and ‘hey, ntwana you are doing well’ and all sorts of things,” said Vilakazi.
“I see playing for Amajta [U20] as a big thing. Representing my country – I didn’t expect this rise [since the Phillys Games].”
KAIZER CHIEFS STARLET WISH FOR PSL’S SECOND SPOT
Meanwhile, Vilakazi spoke of what he wants to achieve both at club and national team level, but perhaps he’s too ambitious with Chiefs.
In his own words, the left-footer said the aim is to win the remaining matches to increase their chances of finishing second and qualifying for the Car Champions League.
As things stand, Chiefs find themselves seventh on the log, and their biggest challenge this season has been winning games consistently.
“So, [among] some of the things that I’d like to achieve at club level is to make sure that we try to win all the remaining games. Because that will increase our chances to finish in number two. And hopefully play in the Caf Champions League,” he continued.
“In the national team, I just wish that we do well and qualify for the upcoming U20 Afcon.”
