Pirates were said to be hoping that Ofori would have a strong Afcon with Ghana so they might sell him on for a decent fee.
The plan was to sell him to Europe so they could profit handsomely from the player. A complete bust was the result instead.
Now reports from Soccer Laduma, suggest that Ofori will ink a new contract.
The deal is as good as sealed. We could hear more in the coming days.
“It’s as good as done. It’s the club that makes the decision on exercising the option and they have agreed that for all departments from the technical team to management,” said a Soccer Laduma source.
“They have reached an agreement that he needs to stay on for yet another year which was added to his contract when he extended last season for one year and another one-year option.
“As it stands now it’s as good as done,” the source observed.
Experience the key to Ofori’s stay
Ofori’s African expertise is crucial, according to a second source, and the club needs him for Caf tournaments.
“The team needs three or four experienced goalkeepers and he is one of them. He may not be playing locally but when the team goes to Africa they will need him. They are fighting to go back to play in the Champions League and they will need all the experienced players and he is one of them. So, the contract extension is to keep him for those reasons,” the second Siya source added.
He might not play 25+ matches per season anymore but Bucs see value in keeping him on.
