Johnson made Kaizer Chiefs players regenerate at 2AM

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has revealed how his players had to do a regeneration session at 2AM on Sunday.

This was on the back of their 0-0 draw away to Cape Town City on Saturday as Chiefs returned from the Mother City at night.

Johnson said the 2AM regeneration session was important for the players as to have the rest of the Sunday off.

Nonetheless, Chiefs returned to full training on Monday in preparation for Tuesday’s league encounter against another Western Cape side in Stellenbosch FC.

Kick-off at FNB Stadium is at 19:30.

HOW KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS HAD TO WORK AT 2AM

“The dynamics have been different. We haven’t had this many back-to-back games since I have been with the team,” Johnson told the Amakhosi website.

“We returned from Cape Town on Saturday night and had a regeneration session at 02:00 in the morning so as to allow the players to rest all of Sunday, which is the best recovery,” added Johnson.

CAN AMAKHOSI FINISH SECOND BEHIND SUNDOWNS?

Meanwhile, Johnson spoke of Amakhosi’s intention to fight for every available point in the league in order to finish second on the log.

Should they successfully finish second, Chiefs would qualify for next season’s Caf Champions League.

The Glamour Boys did have a taste of Caf Champions League football in 2020 where they reached the final.

They, however, lost 3-0 to Al Ahly who were then coached by Pitso Mosimane.

“It is our intention to fight for every point still available in the remainder of the season,” he continued.

“We still believe we can make it. If you don’t believe, you may as well pack it in. As Kaizer Chiefs, we’ll never do that.”

WHAT WILL BE AN ACCEPTABLE FINISH FOR CHIEFS

For Chiefs fans, a top two finish will be acceptable but the reality of the matter is that it may be difficult for them to achieve it.

As things stand, Chiefs are currently lying seventh on the log with 30 points, and that’s five points behind second-placed Stellenbosch FC.

Perhaps, a top five finish is what Chiefs can get in order for them to participate in the MTN8 next season.
