Percy Tau was on the verge of signing a new deal with Al Ahly. However, new reports indicate that the Egyptian giants are open to offers for the Bafana Bafana man. Can Kaizer Chiefs or Sundowns swoop?
Serial winner Tau is up for sale
Percy Tau has collected eight pieces of silverware with Al Ahly since arriving in 2021. SoccerLaduma is reporting, via Sport.Elwatannews, Tau could be surplus to requirements at the club quite soon. The Egyptian outlet mentions that Tau, Aliou Dieng and Dhaoui Christo, three of the club’s foreign stars, will be sold to free up funds for securing young talent. 29-year-old Tau has one year left on his current deal, so Al Ahly will need to act fast by selling now or pinning him down to extended terms. The former options seem likelier at this juncture.
Tau is still a key player for Bafana Bafana who reached the semi-finals of Afcon. However, he did draw criticism for his profligacy in front of goal.
WHEN’S THE NEXT KAIZER CHIEFS MATCH?
Chiefs must wait until Saturday, March 30th when they travel to Cape Town to face Cape Town City. Amakhosi lost last season’s corresponding fixture on the final day to lose out of fourth place to the Citizens. Kickoff in that match is at 15:30. Meanwhile, the club’s rearranged/postponed meeting with TS Galaxy still doesn’t have a confirmed date.
THE RACE FOR SECOND PLACE HEATS UP
The quest to finish second in the DStv Premiership, and therefore secure CAF Champions League Football next season, will be an intense one. Just seven points separate Golden Arrows in 8th position (26 points) and Orlando Pirates in 2nd (33 points). Both SuperSport and Stellenbosch can leapfrog Pirates into 2nd if they win their games in hand. Pirates, who are in the driving seat for that qualification spot, have reportedly offered new man Thalente Mbatha a three-year deal to sign permanently.
