Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership this evening.
The game at FNB Stadium will see Chiefs try to close the gap on Stellenbosch who are currently in second place.
This should prove to be a tough task for Chiefs however, who look to have gone back to being goal-shy. Stellenbosch on the other hand, have been unbeaten in their last 18 games in all competitions. Last time out for Amakhosi, they played to a frustrating draw against Cape Town City. They had the better of the few opportunities in the game.
For Stellenbosch, it was a stroll in the park, beating Royal AM 3-0. They will be hoping for a similar result against Chiefs for sure. But, in trying to prevent that, Amakhosi coach Cavin Johnson has revealed that he had his charges training at 2 AM!
Why Chiefs trained at 2 AM
“The dynamics have been different. We haven’t had this many back-to-back games since I have been with the team. We returned from Cape Town on Saturday night and had a regeneration session at 02:00 in the morning. So as to allow the players to rest all of Sunday, which is the best recovery. Today (Monday) we train, and we’ll be ready for tomorrow.” Johnson revealed to the Chiefs website ahead of the game against Stellenbosch.
Players to ready to matchday squad against Stellenbosch
Chiefs will also welcome back two of their midfield stalwarts in captain Yusuf Maart as well as Edson Castillo. The duo were both suspended for goalless draw against City. It remains to be seen if they both make it straight back in, however, as Johnson waxed lyrically about Siyethemba Sithebe’s performance. The dreadlocked midfielder made only his second appearance of the season in Cape Town.
Another midfielder who could return to the matchday squad is Mfundo Vilakazi.The youngster found the back of the net for the Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge side over the weekend.
