Pirates don’t have the luxury to drop more points, says Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro will be looking for consistency from his team when they face Polokwane City at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers have struggled for consistency this season having only won seven games in the league so far.

Riveiro’s men are currently fifth on the log but are 16 points behind DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates have to accumulate as many points as possible to at least finish second in the league and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“We are in a situation where we don’t have the luxury to drop points,” said Pirates coach Riveiro.

“We want to at least finish the season in the second place and play continental football next season. So, we have dropped too many points in the first round of the season. So, going forward, not dropping points is the only thing on our mind,” Riveiro was quoted on IOL.

Having won the MTN8 title earlier this season, Pirates are still in with a chance to defend the Nedbank Cup title.

“We know (it) is difficult to win back-to-back, but we did it in the MTN8. We want to dream about doing it again in the Nedbank,” Riveiro added.

The Buccaneers will be aiming for nine points in three games as they play City, Cape Town Spurs and Kaizer Chiefs next.
