‘Kaizer Chiefs youngster not leaving, yet…’

Kaizer Chiefs are mulling over a loan move away from the club for 22-year-old midfielder Samkelo Zwane.

Zwane to leave?

Samkelo Zwane’s agent, Mike Makaab, isn’t giving much away on the topic.

“I think it would be premature to discuss anything of this nature, I would say that one would only look at [potential loan moves] come the end of this season. Obviously, we would, as we [ProSport] do with all football clubs, sit with the football club (Chiefs) and discuss each and every player we represent, get feedback from the club, and if the club believes it’s worthwhile and better for the player’s development. For him [Zwane] or any player, let’s forget about Samkelo but any player in general, for a player to go out on loan and if we believe and support the narrative, we’ll get behind doing it but making sure the loan is one where we believe the player has got an opportunity for game time and [good] minutes.” Makaab told to iDiski Times.

End of the road at Kaizer Chiefs, for now

Samkelo Zwane has been a bit-part player this season. The 22-year-old midfield schemer has made only six appearances in the league after falling down the pecking order. Coach Cavin Johnson has favoured more experienced options Yusuf Maart, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Edson Castillo and even the soon-departing Siyethemba Sithebe. This situation didn’t look likely at the back end of the last campaign when Zwane became a fixture in the Amakhosi engine room. Whether or not he can return after a potential loan move is up for debate. Compact attacking midfielder Radebe, now 24, had a short stint in the first team last season but has hardly featured this term. He has only two outings in the league.

Obrigado signs professional terms

Unlike Zwane, the future of Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi looks a little more certain. The talented 18-year-old winger has just signed his first pro deal with the Glamour Boys, keeping him at Naturena until June 2028. Obrigado is a word you’re likelier to hear in Portugal or at your nearest Vida E coffee outlet, but it’s also the nickname of a Glamour Boys superstar in the making. Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi is the next big thing at Naturena.

Vilakazi has shone for the development team and has long been touted for promotion to the senior side. He’s especially popular for his flamboyant dribbling skills and left foot which have impressed the first-team technical staff. In his breakout campaign, the 18-year-old has made six matchday squads, appearing off the bench twice, including in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates. Vilakazi wears the number 29 jersey.
