Erik ten Hag believes INEOS have left him in limbo over next season’s preparations – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag, believes he has been left in limbo by the new INEOS regime.

The Red Devils announced on Christmas Eve that the Glazers had come to an agreement with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s chemical company to buy a 25% stake in the club.

Naturally, this has led to numerous changes already at Old Trafford with the likes of Sir Dave Brailsford, Jean-Claude Blanc and Omar Berrada being brought on board.

INEOS are also currently locked in negotiations to recruit Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox.

This activity has naturally sparked debate in the media as to what it means for under-fire manager, Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman oversaw a very successful debut season but the wheels have come off this term. The Red Devils are set to miss out on Champions League football as a streak of two points in three games after the international break means that they have a serious fight on their hands to even qualify for the Conference League, with West Ham and Newcastle breathing down their necks.

Numerous managers have been linked to the Old Trafford hot seat such as Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter, but Ten Hag has been defiant that he sees himself as head coach next season and that he maintains the full support of the new owners.

The Dutchman has stated numerous times that his views align with those of INEOS and that he is excited about working with them.

However, The Sun reports that in fact, the former Ajax coach is perhaps not as content with how INEOS have acted since taking over.

The outlet reports, “Ten Hag reckons he has been left in limbo by the new regime at Manchester United”.

“Yet, while he is adamant [his strategy] will keep him in a job, Ten Hag also thinks it is impossible for him to plan ahead until a string of top-level new faces start work.

“It is an attitude that will hardly endear him to Ratcliffe or his INEOS colleagues, who have taken charge of United’s football operations following his £1.03billion investment”.

Despite the proactivity in searching for candidates, the fact that none of them will be in place until the summer at best, is seen as a big drawback by the manager.

“Ten Hag thinks any preparations for next term will remain in limbo until they do. Although whether that cuts any ice with Ratcliffe is debatable”.

Joining mid-season and trying to poach the best possible talents from rival clubs will rarely result in rapid appointments.

It is certainly less than ideal that it currently looks like only Omar Berrada will be in place for the summer, when his gardening leave runs out at Manchester City. However, these appointments are for the future and every sensible United fan knows these changes to personnel are for the long term benefit, not short.

Whilst Ten Hag may be frustrated, he is not in a strong position to make such demands. At this stage, he should just be delighted to keep his job as the Red Devils lie 11 points off the top five with just seven matches left to play.
