Monare admits Pirates ‘could have done better’ against AmaZulu

Monare believes Pirates only started to play well in the second half.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare has admitted that Bucs could have done better to get a better result in the match against AmaZulu.

This comes after Pirates were held to a 0-0 draw by Usuthu in a DStv Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday.

The result was a big blow for the Buccaneers, who are trying to close the points gap between themselves and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on the league table.

Jose Riveiro’s charges haven’t enjoyed a good start in the league, with the club recording only two wins in six league games.

Monare, who started the game in midfield alongside Siphelo Baloni and Patrick Maswanganyi, believes Pirates only started playing well in the second half against Usuthu, adding that the result would have gone their way had they started the match on a positive note.

“Honestly speaking, maybe we should have done enough (to win the game). This is the hardest (result to take), we should have done better. But getting a point away from home… we give the side (AmaZulu) the respect they deserve and we take a point and look ahead to the next one,” said the midfielder.

“It was very difficult (game), but at some point we made it difficult for ourselves. But I think we had a better second half, we came back stronger with a positive mindset and wanting to win. I think had we started like that in the first half we could have got a better result.”

Monare and his teammates have an opportunity to redeem themselves when they face Polokwane City at the Orlando Stadium on Friday.
