Soon before the 0-0 Eswatini-friendly result on Friday night, Sono offered a quick preview on Broos possible line-up.

According to Sono, who took Bafana to the AFCON 1998 semi-finals, the Tondela star who plays in Portugal’s Liga 2, would be his shoo-in selection.

“There’s a central midfielder now I saw ku Bafana Bafana. He plays in the middle. A very good player,” Sono said, as quoted by FARPosts’ Mthokozisi Dube.

“If he had stayed in South Africa [and not moved overseas], would he be playing for Bafana? No, he wouldn’t.

“I was shocked to see a player like that. I didn’t even know this guy, I said, ‘this midfielder is class’. He’s a class midfielder.

“Maybe you don’t realise him because the problem with us as South Africans is that we want these flashy players. This boy is direct, and he works hard.

“I would select him for my team; he would be the first player in my team list. I don’t even know him. You can tell that he learnt a lot. He was coached properly where he was developed,” the former Bafana tactician added.

SIPHEPHELO SITHOLE

According to Dube. Sono was talking about the 24-year-old “Yaya” Sithole.

Sithole, who was an unused substitute on Friday night, graduated from the famed KZN Academy before moving on to Sporting Lisbon’s U19s and Vitoria FC’s U23s (both in Portugal).

Meanwhile, the Durban-born Sithole is expected to start against African giants Ivory Coast on Tuesday in Abidjan at 21:00.
