Bafana team doctor issues update on skipper Williams

Bafana Bafana team doctor Thato Maleka provides injury and medical update on goalkeeper and skipper Ronwen Williams.

Maleka said they are monitoring the Mamelodi Sundowns keeper, Williams who came to camp carrying a small injury.

The South African understands that Bafana skipper, Williams sustained an injury when Sundowns faced Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final last weekend.

According to Maleka, he said they would continue to monitor the side’s number one goalkeeper, Williams.

“The team is giving him all the necessary attention,” said Maleka per Phakaaathi

“For the fact that we have him here in the camp we might see him on the pitch, depending on how he does with our management.”

While the doctor gave a clean bill of health for Bafana, it remains to be seen if Williams will start the match against Eswatini on Friday.

Coached by Hugo Broos, Bafana will face the Southern African side at FNB Stadium on Friday evening before their second match away from home on Tuesday.

Bafana will meet 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations hosts, Cote d’Ivoire away in Abidjan on as Broos is preparing for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

KEEPER WILLIAMS DELIGHTED TO RETURN TO BAFANA

After missing the previous camp owing to an illness, Williams expressed delight in his return to the national camp.

“I am happy to be back with the national team and disappointed I missed the camp due to illness. I have a small niggle [from the weekend’s game] but I should be fine,” he said.

“I am always [ready] to wear the Bafana jersey and be part of the team.

“I am happy to be part of the set-up again and looking forward to the games against Eswatini and Ivory Coast.

‘They are tough games coming up but we have a good thing going as a team. We have been improving over the past few months and hopefully that will continue.”
