Chiefs defender on doubting their quality & catching Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe says they cannot doubt their quality following a low start into the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, saying they can catch Mamelodi Sundowns.

Defender Ditlhokwe is one of the new faces at Chiefs after joining from SuperSport United and he is confident anything can happen in football as they trail Sundowns by 14 points.

Under coach Molefi Ntseki, Chiefs have played four league matches while the current log leaders, Sundowns have played five and won all of them.

DEFENDER ON SUNDOWNS & WHY THEY CAN’T DOUBT THEIR QUALITY

The Botswana international defender said all the new Chiefs recruits were doing exceptionally well in the previous clubs.

He referred to the likes of Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo, and Given Msimango among others, but they are yet to make an immediate impact as far as results are concerned.

This comes as Amakhosi have only secured a single draw and two losses in the league so far bar the MTN8 quarter-final win over Cape Town City.

“I think there’s no need for us to judge ourselves whether we are good or bad players. Where we were coming from, we were obviously excelling,” Ditlhokwe told the media per Sowetan.

“So why should we judge ourselves now? Even where we come from, we once faced the situation that we are facing now.

“It’s about digging deep and being focused and then the results will come. Football is a collective sport.

“We must all work together as a unit. It is not the time for pointing fingers. If we win, we win together and if we lose, we lose together.”

DITLHOKWE BANKING ON QUALITY TO CATCH SUNDOWNS

As far as the current log table, coach Rulani Mokwena’s Sundowns are unbeaten and top the standings with 15 points from their 100% start.

With Chiefs sitting 13th with one point next to their name, Ditlhokwe explores their chances of closing the gap, saying anything is possible in football.

“Obviously, anything is possible in life as long as God is alive and you are pushing and determined to achieve any goal that you want to at the end of the season,” he added.

“We believe we still have a good chance to fight for anything that’s there.”

Following their loss to TS Galaxy last Sunday, Chiefs are now turning their focus to AmaZulu whom they welcome at the iconic FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
