Women’s Soccer Dismantles Air Force in Home Opener, 3-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida women’s soccer (1-0-0) improved to 5-0 in season openers under head coach Eric Faulconer as the Ospreys dismantled Air Force (0-0-1) in a 3-0 rout, August 17. 

Goalkeepers Sarah Barrentine and Sofia Miliancano split the halves and helped contribute to a seventh clean sheet in the Osprey’s last eight contests. The performance marked UNF’s seventh-straight clean sheet on the Hodges Stadium pitch.

Sophomore Allie Fekany opened the scoring in the 28th minute after a beautiful long ball from Lauren Weiss put her through on goal. 

Just 15 minutes later, freshman Avery Raimondo sent a ball into the box finding the feet of Sydney Hauth who worked it past goalkeeper Sydney Davis.

Liz Anne Fogarty put the game to bed in the 86th minute after she was brought down in the box to set up a flawless penalty kick goal.

All told the Ospreys sent 26 student-athletes into the match, while North Florida outshot Air Force, 15-8.

Inside the Match 

  • First Half: Air Force applied pressure early, forcing a save from Barrentine … Bella Pontieri rifled a shot off the post in the 23rd minute … Fekany entered the fray in the 28th minute and slotted a goal just 44 seconds after coming on thanks to an impressive through ball from Weiss … both teams exchanged chances until the 43rd minute when Raimondo sent a ball into the box to Hauth who found a way to push it home to extend the Ospreys’ advantage. 
  • Second Half: Both sides entered the second half making significant changes … the Ospreys continued to apply pressure, outshooting Air Force 9-3 in the second half … seven Ospreys made their debuts, with two newcomers contributing to the scoresheet … With five minutes remaining in the match, Fogarty was brought down in the box while attempting to score … she would step up to convert the ensuing penalty.
