Orlando Pirates release midfielder soon after contract renewal 

Orlando Pirates had been confirmed to have renewed the deal of their midfielders early in the year, before now making a U-turn and releasing him.

During the second half of the season, Collins Makgakga’s deal saw its two-year extension option exercised by Pirates, while the player still failed to get game time.

It would’ve come as a big surprise to many Pirates fans who would’ve learnt that their club had opted to keep Makgaka. It was also perplexing how anybody from either the Buccaneers and or the player’s came would’ve arrived at the possibility of a contract renewal for a player who had been struggling for game time throughout his time at the Houghton-based side.

Nonetheless, the a contract was agreed as it seemed to come guarantees of more game time in the next season for Makgaka. When that wasn’t the case, one would’ve thought that it would’ve only made sense for Pirates to look to cash in on the player. But now, in a surprise turn of events the Sea Robbers have agreed to release the player according to KickOff.com 

Pirates part ways with Makgaka

“Orlando Pirates and Collins have agreed to mutually terminate his contract to allow Collins to find a new team and get back playing in the PSL, We hope to see Collins playing regularly in the PSL next season,” his Kieran Brown said to the above mentioned publication.

This termination comes after recent reports cited Makgaka being desperate to leave Pirates. The expectation then was for him to leave the club on a loan deal, however.  With the signings that the Bucs have made, coupled players who are already at the club and possibly those still coming, it looks as if a conversation would’ve taken place between all parties where in agreement that there would continue to be limited game time for him at the club.

The 28-year-old Makgaka played only 17 league matches for Pirates, scoring two goals in three seasons at the club.
