Thapelo Morena inks long term deal with Sundowns

Thapelo Morena will be part of the furniture when his new four-year deal at Mamelodi Sundowns runs out following a lengthy extension.

The news of a long-term extension for Morena comes from SABC Sport.

It’s expected the powerhouse defending champions will confirm it shortly.

Sundowns keep Morena on board

“Yes, we were in discussions regarding another contract for Thapelo. As I have said before, he is a valued member of the squad and Sundowns have truly rewarded him for being a key asset,” said Basia Michaels, the agent of the Sundowns star.

“But it’s not my place to confirm confidential talks. You’d have to ask the club, but what I can say is that Thapelo will be at Sundowns for some time.”

Morena has won six league titles with Sundowns.

He played 37 games across all competitions last season.

Once a teenage star, Rivaldo Coetzee remains part of the plans at Mamelodi Sundowns despite years of troubles with various injuries.

Now 26, Coetzee is facing a career crossroads after too many spells on the sidelines.

“I spoke to him, and he’s extremely positive and is working extremely hard in the off-season, he understands he’s got to have a top season and he’s a committed boy,” his agent Mike Makaab told iDiski Times about his future.

COETZEE IS READY TO WORK HARD

“It’s not as if he’s not committed, he’s just been plagued with strange injuries, sometimes this happens in a footballers career, but we’re hoping that we can get beyond it and that this season will be the turning point again in his career – because he is super talented.”

Coetzee has had a tough time with injuries following his failed move to Glasgow Celtic.

The former Ajax Cape Town defender played just twice during the 2022/23 campaign.
