Sundowns set to welcome another key recruit

Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena led the Brazilians to a sixth successive league title earlier this season, but there is no doubt that in the coming years he will have ambitions of leading the club to great success in Africa in addition to their local hegemony.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Sundowns and Mokwena had agreed on a four-year contract extension that will see the popular coach remain at Chloorkop until 2027, while he is expected to have some influential new personnel at his disposal.

It’s already been widely reported that the Brazilians have successfully secured the services of Stellenbosch star Junior Mendieta, who was once also believed to be on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs.

According to iDiski Times, Sundowns are also now set to snap up Marumo Gallants forward Lesiba Nku, who was a standout performer for the recently relegated club.

The versatility of the 27-year-old playmaker is believed to have made him a sought-after recruit, and the report suggests that Sundowns have ultimately won the race for his signature, with a bid already apparently accepted as talks continue at an advanced stage to officially finalise the deal.

Commenting about the contract extension of Mokwena, the Chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns, Tlhopie Motsepe, said: “We are excited that we have finalized the contract negotiations and look forward to more success and wonderful memories with the Yellow Nation, along with four more years of hard work and dedication from our Head Coach and the Technical Team.

“The Club strongly believes that the talented Coach will take Mamelodi Sundowns to the heights that it deserves to be; but the Chairman highlighted the important role that the supporters will play in the season ahead. “ With our supporters cheering us on throughout our big games- there’s every chance that Coach Rulani and his technical team will achieve our ambitious goals for the football club.”
