KAIZER CHIEFS FAILURES IN FINANCIAL TERMS

Ever heard of the DStv Premiership Q-Innovation, where the best team wins prize money of R1.5 million?

So how does it work?

The top division is simply divided into four fixture blocks (Q1 to Q4). The first and third blocks have eight fixtures, while Q3 and Q4 fourth blocks have seven fixtures.

A prize money of R1.5 million is given to the teams who finish top of the table after each block of fixtures. Sundowns won Q1, Q2, and Q3, while Orlando Pirates walked away with Q4.

With the loss of R6 million in Q-Innovation, Chiefs’ fifth-place finish meant an earning of R1.8 million rather than the ultimate championship prize of R15 million.

MTN8 AND NEDBANK CUP

While Amakhosi went as far as the semi-finals in the MTN8, the competition is a winner takes all situation. Chiefs’ also consolation was the R800 0000 participation payment, while Pirates took home the R8 million prize for defeating AmaZulu in the final.

As for the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs also lost in the semi-final, this time to Pirates. The prize money for making the Ke Yona semi-finals is R1 million, which differs greatly from the R7 million winner’s prize.

How much money was up for grabs:

Q-Innovation: R6 million

PSL: R15 million

MTN8: R8 million

Nedbank Cup: R7 million

Total: R36 million.
